The story of Tombow, a graphic materials company

In 1913, Mr. Harunosuke Ogawa founded the Messrs factory in Kawaracho, Japan. Tombow, dedicated to the pencil production, which over time has developed into an international company which currently manages a payroll of nearly 400 employees worldwide. Its corporate offices and main production centers are located in Japan, and it has three subsidiary companies located in Germany, the United States and China and three foreign production centers, one in Thailand and two in Vietnam. In 1927 Tombow was registered as an official trademark and its first advertisement appeared in King magazine.

From 1946 to the present, Tombow began a meteoric career of creating and launching new products, for which he has received recognitions, certifications and major international awards. Notable in 1984 was the introduction of the ABT Dual Brush Pen, its two-pointed marker ideal for Lettering and Calligraphy.

Tombow’s philosophy is based on observing and considering what is really important to everyone. The feeling of pride and responsibility for their work forces them to always strive for continuous improvement to continue producing graphic material of the highest quality.
